don’t forget the robot

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

How I met your Mother (aka. HIMYM) is now officially one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Any show that will make a full length 1980’s music video (Actually 1990’s but “the 80’s came late to Canada”) just to give one show a crazy plot… Is awesome. Shows like this are few and far between anymore… Everything else is so predictable…

Examples from Nielsens top 20 this past week:

  • Someone will die on the next episode on CSI.
  • Someone will die on the next episode on NCIS
  • Someone will dance and be voted off on Dancing with the stars.
  • Teri Hatcher will do something stupid on Desperate Housewives.
  • Extreme Home Makeover will move the bus.

But in the end… None of them will create a true 80’s parody that makes fun of Canadians… So, I don’t know why people even waste their time watching…. SUIT UP! [ Extended version / Myspace Page for Robin Sparkles — HERE! ]

CandleBox

Wow.. Talk about freaking finally… I have tried twelve times to see Candlebox since the day I bought my Lucy Album… So finally, after 11 tries — WJRR & Miller Light Presented Hoobahstank & Candlebox at Hard Rock Live Orlando — Sunday November 19th, 2006. wo0p! It was just a matter of making it there alive… ;) [ Note: For people who don’t know the whole story, mostly business trips, weddings/parties, and the occasional `mixup` has lead me to gmiss all of them.. Pretty much the pax romana of scheduling conflicts.. ]

So despite “Far Behind” being one of my all time favorite songs, I still refer to their first self titled album as “Before Lucy” — [ Sorta like how people refer to the RHCP Stadium Arcadium as “After Drugs” ] — And I call their third third album as “Opps — Did we release that?” But, I’m not going to go there now… ;) So, Far Behind is without a doubt their most recognized work, and clearly the most well air-played song. However, any decent rock station worth their “Less Talk More ROCK!” will slip in some “Simple Lessons” or “You” on rare occasions… But still, they didn’t/don’t get enough airtime as they deserve — which I guess means the record promoters over at Maverick aren’t bashing is as many DJ skulls as they need to be…. Shame…

Truth be told, Candlebox is a freaking awesome band… And after seeing them live, I’m really starting to think they their record producer needs to be fired. They have a much stronger bluesy hard rock presence on stage that isn’t in their previous records. They are a Seattle grunge band that stopped hating life and now just wants to rock. Awesome, take the stage energy and talent they had on stage last night and put it into a Record… Period.. As a fan, that is what I want to see…

P.s. Kevin Martin — Use you’re voice more on the next record…. However, Lose the freaking Skinny Jeans…. Please… Dear god, loose the skinny jeans…

Okay, NOW I’m in the Holiday Spirit

Friday, November 17th, 2006

God knows I hate the fact that retailers start preparing for Christmas a week earlier each year.. My Local Lowes had lights and ornaments out the second week of October, which is freaking crazy… Anyways, Usually about Dec 1st, I start trying to get in the mood… But now, thanks to Dee Snyder, and the rest of Twisted Sister — I’m wet with excitement about the holidays! Woo Hoo!

Note: If anything, Just Jump to 1:30 — Otherwise it’ll be the longest 6 mins of your life…

I’m just easily amused…

I’m finally catching up on my TV after last weeks Code Jam. On NBC’s Las Vegas this week, they made two great references and wanna give the writers a shout out. Way to go…. You.. Whoever you are…

1. There was a party at the Montecito hotel for Dunder Mifflin
2. While Smantha was being hit on at a bar, her Mercenary walked up and said — “You’re with me Leather…

Vote!

Hanging Chad

The first time I ever voted, was in the 2000 Presidential Election. At the time, I really didn’t think it was a big deal — And it was sorta anti-climatic since I was mail-in voting because I was away at college. Regardless I took my time, read over everything, and after it was completed put a stamp on it and mailed it in. I sorta felt good about myself at that point. It really took all of 10 mins to complete, and I got that warm fuzzy feeling that I had done my civil duty as a citizen to both myself and my peers. Right?

Well, in 2000, my vote was a mail in ballot to Palm Beach County. So, chances are it was never even counted. Who knows. That whole event showed how American politicians will lie, cheat, steal, and care little about the people in the interest of protecting their parties. This fiasco drove a lot of people away from the polls, because they felt their votes didn’t count or matter — Which I can relate to. But what that whole event proved to me is that every vote is important, and no matter what you need to get your ass out and Vote.

Oh, and if you’re not registered, you might as well just declare ‘Osama’ on your next W2. ;)

The Mike Dyson: Knocking out dirt!

Monday, November 6th, 2006

Yesterday morning, while having brunch with some friends, the topic of the vacuums came up. [Wow, that was a manly statement…] We started talking about the Dyson Vacuum’s and how everyone raves about how super, great, and wonderful they are. Someone even told a story about how it has so much suction, that one lady was killed when it sucked a steak knife from the kitchen on the first floor, through the floor boards, through the Dyson, and then proceeded to stab her in the chest. “Wow..” I though — That’s a good deal of sucking.

So, while reading the Sunday paper, I found a deal on a Dyson that I couldn’t pass up. Pretty much after playing some coupon and Mail-in-Rebate Bingo, I was able to purchase one for 50% off the normal price. So, I figured it was time for a little experiment. Pretty much, if the Dyson didn’t pick up a significant amount more dust/dirt after running our usual vacuum, I was going to take it right back to where I bought it. Sounds fair right?

1. First, the carpeted area of our house is about 1200 sq. feet.
2. Second, we vacuumed the whole house with our normal vacuum.
3. Third, purchased and assembled the Dyson.
4. Vacuumed Again.

Results: We emptied the canister on the Dyson Twice. I was simply amazed.

In the words of Jon Stone: “It’s really a shame you need to pay $500 for a Vacuum cleaner that actually Vacuums” — Luckily for me, I only had to pay Half that… ;)
