Night Blooming Cereus

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Over Christmas while spending time at my folks house, I was able to witness one of the cooler botanical events I have seen in my lifetime. (Granted that list is indeed pretty short) — The Night Blooming Cereus grows these gigantic flowers (The flower in the picture above is about 8-10 inches across), with a smell that to me was a mixture between Jasmine and Gardena (Please scratch and sniff your monitor for the full effect). The catch is, these flowers bloom at around 10pm, and will be completely gone in the morning. Once. That’s It. And for no more than 6 hours. After that, the flower literally wilts away.

Still don’t believe me? OK, luckily someone has a cool YouTube Movie. Yah Happy now?

Five things you don’t know about me…

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

*sigh* This must be some Internet reindeer game that everyone is playing… But apparently, if your name gets tagged You’re supposed to tell people 5 things they don’t know about yourself… How can this possibly end badly?

Here’s the history of it so far — Myself » Alex Rudloff » Chris Finke » C.K. Sample » Jason Calacanis » Amanda Congdon » Michael Ambs » Rick Rey » Steve Woolf » Steve Garfield » Jeff Pulver.

1. In 11 years, 8 of which were 40+ hours a week, I have never once called in sick to work. (I have left Sick, But always made it in..)

2. I was adopted, and grew up my whole life knowing so. (Not that it wouldn’t of been painfully obvious, since I’m a foot taller than anyone I’m related to, and I have Banging Hair in a family that is clearly Banging hair challenged… )

3. One of my life goals is to be on the cover of a magazine.

4. As much as I hate the Nick-Name ‘Celly’; My Favorite expressions comes from it — “Oh! You’re Celly!” — That just means I’m doing something right.

5. My Birthday. But I’m still not telling anyone that. I freaking hate birthdays….

Ok, so, Tag — You’re It:

Matt Heerema (Puddles), Brian(again), And perhaps Brian will make a logo so that we can also include Niki.

What a week.. err… weeks… err month…

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

Life has been crazy the last few weeks. Not just for me, but everyone. So, here are some pity shout-outs.

The Tubb - My poor dog Abby had an ‘incident’ while at the vet and has since been through surgery, a sling, head cone, and finally lots of ‘tripod’ jokes. She’s doing much better now, and is is happily resuming her daily routine of barking at UPS, FEDEx, School Buses — Pretty much anything Diesel. Seriously, she is all about the spark plugs.

The Jaime - My poor girlfriend has had to deal with me during all of this. She has been a real trooper considering everything that has happened with Abby. Not to mention she was also sick, traveling, super busy at work, and having to cook like 200 dozen deviled eggs. Because of how great she has been, I told her she can use the Dyson…

The Blogsmith’s - Our jobs were put best this week. “Weblogs Inc. — The company that never sleeps.” It’s true. During a development cycle our team of developers and designers adopt a 9am-6pm/9pm-3am work schedule. Our family and friends don’t understand it. The people we work with don’t understand why we stop between 6:01 and 8:59. Regardless, despite colossal babies, clogged Internet tubes, Bugs Bunny, puma’s, cross country travel in a roller skate, org charts gone wild, the media tab, the whole state of Iowa, key-tars, and many many expletives about Alex — You realize what a bad-ass group we have with a great leader who all need a freaking vacation… Viva la Moratorium!

The Neighbor - If you live by me, and have the SSID ‘linksys’, You saved my life this week. My internet was down, and your strong steady signal helped me keep on chugging.

Aight, now onto less stressful things, like Christmas shopping… crap…
