Night Blooming Cereus

Over Christmas while spending time at my folks house, I was able to witness one of the cooler botanical events I have seen in my lifetime. (Granted that list is indeed pretty short) — The Night Blooming Cereus grows these gigantic flowers (The flower in the picture above is about 8-10 inches across), with a smell that to me was a mixture between Jasmine and Gardena (Please scratch and sniff your monitor for the full effect). The catch is, these flowers bloom at around 10pm, and will be completely gone in the morning. Once. That’s It. And for no more than 6 hours. After that, the flower literally wilts away.

Still don’t believe me? OK, luckily someone has a cool YouTube Movie. Yah Happy now?
